Benkovska Cave, also known as Ostrilska Cave, lies above the village of Cherni Vit in the Teteven Balkan. It is a small natural horizontal cave, about 84 m long, yet its importance is far greater than its size. In May 1876, after the defeat of the April Uprising, Georgi Benkovski, Zahari Stoyanov and part of the rebel band reportedly hid here for a short time, which gives the site strong historical resonance. The cave is set in a limestone rock formation surrounded by beech forest, and the area combines rugged Balkan scenery, quiet atmosphere and open views of the nearby slopes. Reached by a short marked trail from the Ostrilya area, it is a memorable stop for visitors interested in nature, Bulgarian history and lesser-known authentic places.
