Bistrishki waterfall

The Bistrishki Waterfall, also known as a pearl of the Rila Mountains, is an impressive natural landmark located in the Rila Mountain, just a few kilometers from the town of Dupnitsa. The waters of the Dupnishka Bistritsa River cascade down from a height of about 35 meters, forming numerous beautiful falls and chutes over large stone blocks. The waterfall is particularly full and powerful in the spring when the force of the water is most palpable.

The waterfall is accessible via the "Samokovishteto" eco-trail, with the hike starting from a parking area at the upper end of Bistritsa village. The entire route is approximately 11 kilometers long and takes about 4 hours to complete as a round trip. The first section of the trail is a steeper climb (around 30-40 minutes) to the Sofradzhik area, where a panoramic platform offers incredible views of the Dupnitsa Valley and the surrounding mountains. From there, the path continues along a relatively flat gravel road for another hour and 15 minutes to the final destination.

A wooden bridge has been built directly in front of the waterfall, providing an excellent viewpoint of the cascading water. For the more curious, a short, steep path leads to the upper part of the falls, offering a different but equally captivating perspective. The route is well-maintained with designated rest areas and is suitable for beginner hikers and families with children accustomed to longer walks.
