Golden Bridges

Zlatnite Mostove (“Golden Bridges”) is Vitosha’s best-known stone river – a wide stream of huge, rounded boulders spreading along the valley of the Vladayska River on the mountain’s north-western slopes, at about 1,350–1,500 m a.s.l. Set inside Vitosha Nature Park and very close to Sofia, the area is a classic spot for an easy mountain escape.

The boulder run formed over millions of years as intrusive rocks weathered into blocks that gradually slid down into the valley. In places the stones act like natural bridges over the water, while golden-tinted lichens on their surfaces help explain the name.
