Golyam Skok Waterfall is one of the best-known natural landmarks above the town of Maglizh, set in the shaded gorge of the Central Stara Planina. The waterfall has a drop of about 15 meters and stands out with its narrow rocky setting, cool forest atmosphere, small pools, and the sense of a preserved, wilder corner of the Maglizh Balkan. It was declared a natural landmark in 1965 and is often associated with the nearby Malkiyat Skok, together forming the characteristic pair of Maglizh waterfalls. Although it is not among Bulgaria’s tallest waterfalls, Golyam Skok is memorable for its scenic surroundings, permanent flow, and the striking blend of water, cliffs, and dense mountain greenery.
