Goritsa Waterfall (also known as the Ovchartsi Waterfall) is a striking 39-metre drop in the northern foothills of the Rila Mountains, above the village of Ovchartsi and close to the spa town of Sapareva Banya. The Goritsa River plunges over two rock steps, carving a scenic niche and a pool at the base. Set at about 900 m a.s.l., it is considered the lowest-lying waterfall in Rila, yet it keeps a steady flow for much of the year. The site has been protected as a natural landmark since 1965 and is the highlight of a chain of seven ‘Ovchartsi’ waterfalls along the same stream. A short forest eco-trail leads to viewpoints and cool resting spots beside the spray.
