Kremenski Lakes

The Kremenski Lakes, also known as the Dzhangal Lakes, are the largest lake group in the Pirin Mountains. Situated in a picturesque cirque, they are surrounded by the impressive peaks of Sivriya, Dzhano, and Kremenski Peak. The group consists of nine lakes—seven permanent and two that periodically dry up—which drain into the Retizhe River. Despite their scale, the lakes remain off the main tourist trails, making them a quieter and more secluded destination.

Three main lakes stand out among the group.

• Ledeno Ezero (The Ice Lake), which gets its name from the ice blocks that often float in its waters well into the summer.

Access to the Kremenski Lakes is most convenient from the Bezbog Hut or the Retizhe River valley, with trails that wind through dense dwarf pines and up steep moraines. The ascent to the nearby Dzhano Peak is challenging but rewards hikers with an unforgettable panoramic view not only of the Kremenski Lakes but also of the Popovo, Mitrovo, and other Pirin lakes. As they are located within the Pirin National Park, camping near the lakes is prohibited.
