Krushuna Falls

Krushuna Waterfalls (the “Maarata” area) are Bulgaria’s largest travertine cascade – a chain of steps, small natural pools and turquoise basins built on tufa terraces by the Proynovska River, which springs from the Krushuna Cave. They are part of the “Maarata” natural landmark (5.7 ha) near the village of Krushuna (Letnitsa Municipality, Lovech Province), on the northern slopes of the Devetaki Plateau in a classic karst landscape of limestone cliffs and caves.

The main fall, known as Praskaloto, drops roughly 15–20 m and splits into several streams, surrounded by mosses and lush, humid greenery. A short eco-trail with wooden bridges and stairs lets visitors get close to the water, while nearby rock niches and cells recall the medieval hesychast hermits who once lived here.

The waterfalls are easily accessible by car, with a designated parking area and an entrance fee collected for the maintenance of the park. The region is a well-developed tourist hub, offering guest houses, restaurants, and other amenities, making it a popular destination for day trips and longer holidays. Another famous landmark, the Devetashka Cave, is also located nearby.
