Ledenika Cave

Ledenika Cave is among Bulgaria’s best-known show caves. It lies in the Vrachanski Balkan area of the Balkan Mountains, about 16 km from the city of Vratsa, within Vrachanski Balkan Nature Park. Its entrance is at about 830 m a.s.l. in the lowest part of the Ledenika Uval, and the visitor route passes through galleries and 10 chambers in a cave roughly 320 m long.

Its name comes from the icy decorations that form in winter and spring near the entrance, when cold air creates frost, icicles and frozen cascades. A highlight is the Big (Concert) Hall, famous for its natural acoustics, alongside rich karst formations of stalactites and stalagmites. The inner temperature is around 8°C, so a light jacket is useful even in summer. The cave has been open to tourists since 1961 and was comprehensively renovated in 2005.
