Polska Skakavitsa is a picturesque karst waterfall in the Zemen Mountain, above the village of Polska Skakavitsa in Kyustendil Province, at about 700 m above sea level.
Fed by a small stream, a tributary of the Struma River, its waters plunge over 50 metres down moss-covered rock terraces, forming a thin, airy curtain of water you can even walk behind.
Because of the limestone-rich karst springs, this is one of the few waterfalls that literally “grow” – tufa deposits slowly build up the travertine rim and shape bizarre ledges in soft green hues.
The combination of vertical cliffs, lush vegetation and views towards the Struma gorge makes Polska Skakavitsa one of the most impressive water spectacles in the Kraishte region in any season.
