Popinolashki Waterfall is one of the most accessible cascades in Bulgaria’s Pirin Mountains, tucked into the conifer forests of the Popina Laka area above Sandanski. The Bashliitsa River drops in two steps over granite rock, carving small pools at the base. Sources describe the fall as about 12–15 m high, while its setting at 1,230 m a.s.l. keeps the air cool even in summer. Since 11 October 1965 it has been protected as a natural landmark (“Waterfall of the Sandanska Bistritsa River”), connected to the headwaters of Sandanska Bistritsa formed downstream where Bashliitsa meets the Sarchalitsa.
