The Fish Lakes (Ribni Ezera) are a picturesque group of lakes situated in the heart of the Central Rila Mountains. They are located in a vast cirque, nestled between the peaks of Kyoravitsa, Kanarata, and Yosifitsa. The group consists of two large lakes—the Upper and Lower Fish Lake—and several smaller, non-permanent ones. The "Ribni Ezera" hut is conveniently located between the two main lakes, offering shelter to hikers.
A well-marked tourist trail leads to the lakes, with the most convenient starting point being Kirilova Polyana, located near the Rila Monastery. The hike passes through the scenic "Tiha Rila" (Quiet Rila) area and is suitable for both day trips and longer treks. The journey can also be combined with a visit to the largest glacial lake in the Balkans— Smradlivoto Lake (The Stinky Lake). This destination offers breathtaking views and is accessible even for families with children.
