Rilska Skakavitsa is the highest waterfall in the Rila Mountains—a dramatic 70-metre plunge of the Skakavitsa River. It lies within Rila National Park beneath the eastern slopes of Mount Kabul at roughly 1,950 m a.s.l.
Century-old Macedonian pine (Pinus peuce) forests surround the falls, giving the valley a distinct alpine character.
In winter the cascade often freezes into an icy curtain, while in spring its roar and mist fill the gorge.
