The Stob Pyramids are a striking hoodoo field on the western foothills of the Rila Mountains, just above the village of Stob (Kyustendil Province). Most pillars rise 6–10 m, with the tallest reaching about 12 m.
They formed as rain erosion sculpted weakly cemented Pliocene–Pleistocene sandstones and conglomerates; embedded boulders cap the columns and create the mushroom-like “stone hats.” The warm yellow-to-rust hues and varied shapes make the scene uniquely photogenic.
Protected as a natural landmark since 1964, the ridge overlooks the Rilska River valley with wide views of Rila, and is easily reached from Stob.
