The Marvelous Bridges

The Marvelous Bridges are a striking karst formation in Bulgaria’s Western Rhodopes, at the foot of Mount Persenk, where two marble arches span the valley of the Erkyupriya River.

They are the remnants of a cave roof carved by the river and later collapsed. The Upper (Large) Bridge is about 96 m long; its tallest vault rises 45 m and opens roughly 40 m wide, while the Lower (Small) Bridge, 200 m downstream, is 60 m long and up to 50 m high.

Set around 1,450 m above sea level amid century-old spruces and safe footpaths, the site is an emblematic natural landmark and part of Bulgaria’s “100 National Tourist Sites.”
