The mouth of the Ropotamo River marks the point where its slow waters meet the Black Sea near Cape St. Dimitar, between Dyuni and Primorsko. In its lower course the river widens inside the strictly protected Ropotamo Nature Reserve, creating a classic coastal wetland scenery—lush riparian forests, reedbeds, sand dunes and a calm bay opening to the sea. The area is famed for biodiversity: white water lilies in the backwaters, basking freshwater turtles, and birds such as herons and kingfishers. A popular way to experience it is the boat trip from the E87 bridge downriver to the estuary, with views toward the “Lion’s Head” rock formation above the right bank.
